CI is currently looking to fill five positions, shown below. All positions are engineering positions and will involve writing code, reading from the classic computing canon, and working in a colaborative environment within the same office and between offices.

[edit] Technical Lead Software Engineer

POSITION SUMMARY

As the Tech Lead, you will utilize your leadership skills to coordinate the team's work efficiently while encouraging individual creativity. You are able to analyze and anticipate your team's needs, as well as those of the high-level executives, including the Manager. With your strong engineering background, you are also working heavily on the product with your team. Your previous project management exerience allows you to account for any sudden changes in personnel or technical requirements with a professional manner. As circumstances demand, you will also provide strategic support for the product.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Designing, implementing, launching, and maintaining a new user interface for the product
  • Developing easier ways for students to browse the curriculum and create schedules
  • Incorporating user feedback into the product
  • Maintaining strong working relationships between the team and the management

QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS or MS in Computer Science or equivalent. (PhD a plus)
  • 8-10 years of industry software experience
  • 3-5 years of previous technical lead experience
  • Extensive work in web programming, including HTML, CSS, Javascript and server-side scripting
  • Experience in user interface design

[edit] Senior Software Engineer

POSITION SUMMARY

You will work closely with the small team to design the user interface for the Bennington Class Planner. As senior software engineer, you are also responsible for maintaining the server(s) and the office network. Because you are a self-starter, your creative solutions may be implemented quickly in this decentralized, flexible environment. This is a part-time position that will average five hours of work a week.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Program additions to and maintain the Class Planner application using Ruby, Javascript, CSS and HTML
  • Communicate and problem-solve effectively and efficiently with the rest of the team
  • Lead the testing and debugging stages
  • Ensure the readability of the code and prepare documentation
  • Prepare technical reports

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10 years of experience as a software engineer or related field
  • Previous experience teaching and instructoring co-workers
  • Extensive knowledge of Ruby, Javacsript, HTML, and CSS
  • Previous experience in User Interface design

[edit] Junior Software Engineer

POSITION SUMMARY

You will work closely with the senior hired Software Engineer and the rest of the team to build software for the Bennington Class Planner. This is a part-time position that will average five hours of work a week. Extensive programming experience is expected and you will be expected to make frequent reports to the tech lead.

RESPONSIBILITIES

-Program additions to and maintain the Class Planner application using Ruby, Javascript, CSS and HTML

-Work with the rest of the team to determine changes and requirements and solve problems

-Debug

QUALIFICATIONS

-Extensive knowledge of Ruby, Javacsript, HTML, and CSS

-High level of interest and commitment to the project

-Ability to communicate effectively with the rest of the team

-At least 10 years of experience as a software engineer or related field

POSITION SUMMARY

You will work closely with the individual hired as the Design Software Engineer II to improve the existing user interface for the online Bennington Class Planner. You will also work intensely with the rest of the software team, for an average of 5 hours a week, and report frequently to the Tech Lead, who will oversee all development.


RESPONSIBILITIES

- Perform full life-cycle development of Class Planner application using Ruby, HTML, CSS, and Javascript.

- Work with team of software engineers to determine application requirements, possible features and bugs.

- Support and maintain software developed past, current, and future versions of this application.


QUALIFICATIONS

- Leadership experience; 1-5 years professional experience; extensive work in web design and programming a must!

- Experience in UI aesthetics preferred.

- Knowledge of Ruby, Javascript, HTML, CSS.

- Interest in the UI interface of the product.

- Candidates with Master's or PhD degrees are required for this position...but candidates attempting a Computer Science degree will be grudgingly considered.

POSITION SUMMARY

You will work closely with the individual hired as the Design Software Engineer I to improve the existing user interface for the online Bennington Class Planner. You will also work intensely with the rest of the software team, for an average of 5 hours a week, and report frequently to the Tech Lead, who will oversee all development.


RESPONSIBILITIES

- Perform full life-cycle development of Class Planner application using Ruby and other languages.

- Work with team of software engineer to determine application requirements

- Support and maintain software


QUALIFICATIONS

- Knowledge of Ruby, Javascript, HTML, CSS.

- Interest in the UI interface of the product.

- Candidates with Master's or PhD degrees are preferred, but also a viable candidate if a sophomore at a small liberal arts college, preferably on the east coast.

- Ideally a blond female with the middle name “Marie,” although not required.

POSITION SUMMARY

You will work closely with the rest of the Bennington Curriculum Planner team to help develop this groundbreaking new product. Project goals include providing new functionality and capabilities to the program and extending the GUI to be more user-friendly. You will also provide technical support and quality control for the product.

RESPONSIBILITIES

- Full life-cycle development of the Bennington Course Planner application

- Quality testing and day-to-day maintenance of the online BCP database.

- Work closely with the software engineers and design software engineers to synergistically provide a cutting-edge dynamic user experience.

QUALIFICATIONS

- 2-4 years of experience with college-course-planning applications.

- Familiarity with Javascript, CSS, and HTML.

- PhD or Masters in Computer Science, incomplete Liberal Arts BA, or equivalent.
