On Monday night at 9pm the three of us met in the library. We set up a coffee "stand" in the new books section, hoping to trick people into taking our survey. It worked. We were there till 11pm, but only used 2 pots of coffee. Here are our results:

1. Why are you using the library tonight?

•I'm working here ($$) and doing my homework.

•Because my friend needed to pick up a book.

•To find a book.

•To print off scripts.

•To get my ILL books.

•Senior thesis work.

•Looking for a quite place to finish homework.

•To write a paper.

•Free coffee.

•Working on a computah.

•Visiting a friend who works here/getting a DVD.

•Usually to read. It is hard to work in Dewey right now, because there is free coffee.

•Printing.

•Studying quietly, use printer/other library resources.

•To have a quiet place to read.

•The computer.

•To use the printer.

•About twice a week.

•Quite often. Daily.

•2x daily.

•@ least 2 hours every other day.

•About 3-4 times a day.

•A few times a week--Printing!

•Once every two days.

•2+ times a week.

•Pretty much every day, as I also have a job here.

•About 2x per week.

•Every other day.

•About five times a week.

3. What do you use the library for (books, movies, printing, quiet spaces)?

•Art books, movies (DVD's), printing, magazines, to use the computers and databases.

•Books, movies, printing, magazines, classtime.

•All of them.

•Printings, movies, books, quiet (in that order).

•Books, movies, printing, quiet spaces.

•For printing and picking up the occasional book or movie I need. For a hiding place.

•Reserve books, movies, printing, quiet space.

•All of the above.

•Books, printing, quiet spaces, inspiration, sleep.

•Computahs.

•Books, movies, magazines, quiet work space.

•Every time I come here.

•Class, printing, books, movies.

•Quiet space, books, movies, printing.

•Quiet space.

•Printing, books, movies, class.

•I use the library for all of the above, especially the books.

4. What is your favorite place in the library?

•Upstairs. The room with the couches.

•In the downstairs couch.

•The movies.

•The new computers.

•The reading room upstairs.

•Downstairs corner by garden.

•Ground floor window seating. I like the chess board.

•Near big windows.

•Upstairs sweet side alcoves.

•Mmm... Outside courtyard.

•Courtyard, comfy chairs n the conference/reading rooms.

•Upstairs.

•Don't have one.

•Reading room.

•Downstairs, red arm chairs with lapdesks.

•The chairs upstairs.

•The couch next to the magazines.

5. Do you like the library?

•I love it.

•It is okay. It is not very inviting to me.

•Yes.

•Yes!

•More or less.

•Yep.

•Sure.

•Yes.

•More than you can conceive.

•Ha! Um. Yes! I like it enough.

•Sure.

•Yes.

•Yes.

•Kind of.

•UH-HUH!

•Yes.

•I like the library.

6. Does the library have what you need, when you need it?

•For the most part, yes.

•Sometimes. It doesn't have good "vibe" spaces --> comfortable spaces, dig? It is not a productive work environment for me for some reason.

•Not always. Usually don't have the books I need.

•Always.

•Not usually.

•Yep.

•Most of the time.

•Usually.

•Generally, but I don't need much.

•No... I want it to be 24/7. But I know thats impossible.

•For the most part... more films!!

•Yes. But I wish the books were newer.

•Yes.

•Sometimes.

•Oh yeah.

•Usually.

•Yes.

7. What would you change about the library?

•More comfortable seating, more art books, more art. DVDs, more in general. Coffee machine! Outdoors space. I would decrease fines. They are too expensive.

•Better work environment.

•More architecture books.

•Open 24 hrs?

•The lighting, more up to date books, more books.

•Bigger! Different lights! More hiding places!

•Recent movie collection, addition of course books for all classes offered at Bennington. May add some color to the environment.

•More plants and later hours.

•Working copy machines and easier to access books (particularly the art shelves are overstuffed). I always want to do handstands against a wall but there's not enough wall space/kick up ratio.

•I would spread the computaz out.

•It's pretty ugly and out of date.

•More free coffee also, I would like newer editions of books, and for it to be open 24 hours like VAPA.

•Nothing.

•Larger resources.

•I've never needed this but I've heard it has limited resources for some...

•More books.

•I would get more books, especially ceramics books.

8. What is your favorite aspect of the library?

•I love the staff of the library and I love being able to take out movies. I love the art section.

•The free use of computers. I like the atlases, too!

•The atmosphere/the people.

•The research held and free printing.

•The very helpfu staff.

•Peaceful... Not a huge taboo on talking. Lots of electronic resources.

•They hired me. Hehe!

•Real great RANDOM ASS books.

•There's just too many.

•Movie library.

•Databases, magazines, quiet spaces, computers.

•The books of course.

•Atmosphere.

•The attractive staff.

•The calm vibe and the friendly people.

•The books.

•The books.

Total Coffee Drinkers: 10

Total Non-Coffee Drinkers: 7

Unrelated (Mostly): When I told somebody that I was taking this class, they went on a huge rant about how they want more student artwork in the library and they would love to have rotating shows, a gallery, something along those lines. It went on for about 10 minutes uninterrupted. --RebeccaGrabman 14:10, 19 September 2007 (EDT)
